The " Hà Giang loop " is one of the most spectacular road trips in Southeast Asia, recommended for adventurous travelers. The route stretches 350 km, winding through valleys, high mountain passes, deep gorges, geological formations, and rugged cliffs. Particularly notable is the stretch passing through Mã Pì Lèng - one of Vietnam's four great mountain passes - and traversing the vibrant homelands of 22 ethnic minorities, known for their exquisite cuisine and captivating indigenous cultures.
 

Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Ha Giang – Bac Sum Pass – Heaven’s Gate – Traditional Weaving Village – Quan Ba – Yen Minh: 100km

8:30 AM: Our local tour guide will pick you up from your hotel, homestay, home, or bus station, or we can start from the office in Ha Giang. After the tiring overnight bus from Hanoi to Ha Giang, you will have time to rest. The bus will arrive in Ha Giang around 3:00 AM. After breakfast, it’s time to prepare for the trip. Our tour guide will be there at 9:00 AM and guide everyone in the preparation tasks. The tour guide will also introduce the itinerary in detail with a map. For self-driving customers, we will spend time practicing driving. Since Ha Giang is one of the most dangerous roads in northern Vietnam, careful preparation is necessary.

10:30 AM: We begin the tour. We will take you on a journey on the first day, climbing up Bac Sum Pass. The road to the top consists of 20 winding bends, often called the ‘snake road.’ From the top, you will be able to enjoy a panoramic view of the landscape and valleys, where the secret villages of ethnic minorities are located. Afterward, our tour will continue to Heaven’s Gate in Tam Son, situated at an altitude of over 1200m above sea level. Here, you can admire the breathtaking scenery with stunning limestone mountains and vast valleys. Next, we will go to a scenic viewpoint to see the Twin Mountains and visit the Trinh Tuong house village called Nam Dam. This village is home to 100% Dao people, and you will have the opportunity to learn about their local culture and the unique architecture of their clay brick houses.

12:00 PM: Lunch in Quan Ba town or Nam Dam village and cooked by a local family, you will enjoy local food. Continue moving up and down to see the valley and village observing mountains, rivers, lakes with beautiful scenery that other tours cannot do.

2:00 PM: Our tour guide will take you to visit a local family using ‘Flax’ to weave fabric and create traditional clothes. You will experience their daily life and witness the traditional craftsmanship of the indigenous people, with enthusiastic guidance from our tour guide. Here, you will experience the daily life of the locals and witness the process of weaving fabric and creating traditional clothes. Our tour guide will provide enthusiastic guidance, and you will have the opportunity to learn about the intricate art of hand weaving. Afterward, we will travel through many little-known rural roads, allowing us to witness breathtaking landscapes and discover some hidden villages. We will also stop at the top of the roundabout road to enjoy a panoramic view of the valley.

5:00 PM: Arrive in Yen Minh town and stay at a local homestay. By this time, you have free time, so you can rest, drink some beer, or take a shower after a tiring day of driving.

  • For customers with large luggage, you can leave it at the office because after the tour, we will be picked up by bus at the office at the end of the tour.

Day 2: Yen Minh - Tham Ma Pass - H'Mong King Palace - Lung Cu Flag Tower - Thien Huong Ancient Village - Dong Van

9:00 AM: After breakfast, we start our sightseeing tour again. It will take us about an hour to drive to Tham Ma Pass, one of the biggest challenges for horses that used to live here in the past. This road consists of 9 zigzagging turns, which looks very beautiful. Because of the steep slope, it made many horses in Ha Giang give up, that's why it's called 'Tham Ma' in Chinese, which means 'horse check'. At 10:30 AM, we will arrive at the palace of the king who used to rule the whole mountainous area in the 18th century when this mountain area was very pristine. You will have a chance to see the wonderful architecture of the ancient H'Mong people and learn more about the history, culture, and formation of the people in this area. This is a chance for you to get more knowledge and a deeper understanding of this place.

12:00 PM: Continue to visit Lung Cu flag tower, where you can see the border area between Vietnam and China. The view from the top of the flag tower or the viewing point is beautiful and vast. After that, we will have time to visit a village called Lo Lo Chai, where a small ethnic group lives. In Vietnam, it's the Lo Lo people and you will get to see their traditional houses built of clay bricks... and we will have lunch at a local restaurant.

2:30 PM: Thien Huong Ancient Village is also famous for its lush green natural environment, with fields, terraced fields, and stunning scenery. You can stroll through the village, participate in outdoor activities such as hiking, wandering through the fields, or simply relaxing and enjoying the beautiful scenery of the ancient village. Thien Huong Ancient Village is an ideal destination for those who want to explore the culture and heritage of the Vietnamese people. Immerse yourself in the peaceful atmosphere and unique cultural traditions of this ancient village. The village has houses built of wood and brick, showing the beauty and sophistication of traditional architecture. You can walk through the narrow streets, see the village gate and ancient temples.

5:00 PM: We will arrive in Dong Van in the late afternoon, this is the time to enjoy a delicious and warm dinner with the whole group with local dishes after a long day full of adventure.

  • In the evening you can explore the market and Old Quarter in the town center. This is also where the French stayed and established the administrative system. Note that on weekends, there is a Sunday market that is well worth visiting, as it is a cultural and trading center for the locals.

Day 3: Dong Van Town - Ma Pi Leng Pass - Nho Que River - Meo Vac Town - Mau Due Valley - Du Gia Village

9:00 AM: After enjoying a delicious breakfast, we will leave Dong Van town. Our tour guide will take you to see the most beautiful part of the journey, located on the Happiness Road connecting the four mountainous districts. This stretch of road is known for its rugged cliffs and spectacular scenery. It is considered the most difficult pass in the north and is often referred to as the "king" of the passes in Vietnam. The road winds through the cliffs and reaches an altitude of 2,000 meters as it crosses Ma Pi Leng Pass.

12:00 PM: We will arrive at Nho Que River. From the stunning mountain viewpoint, you will have a 360° experience and then cycle to admire the panoramic view of Ma Pi Leng Pass from the boat trip, taking unforgettable photos. Standing at the top of the pass, you will be impressed by the majestic beauty of the surrounding mountains and rivers. We will continue our journey to more remote villages, where you will get an insight into the lives of people in remote areas of Vietnam. This area has majestic natural scenery, with large cliffs, abundant granite, terraced valleys stretching up to the sky, hanging valleys, and roads running along the mountainside.

1:00 PM: We will stop for lunch and rest at Mau Due. From Mau Due town, we will continue our journey through the trail area of Ha Giang province to Du Gia village. Du Gia is famous for its beautiful scenery and is a famous village where seven ethnic minorities live together.

5:00 PM: Return to the homestay in Du Gia. Du Gia is one of the pristine villages, exuding peaceful and rustic beauty. Here, Du Gia waterfall flows all year round - a place that attracts many adventurous souls seeking discovery and peace of mind. To reach Du Gia waterfall, visitors have to overcome a challenging journey. However, when you get here, you will be able to enjoy an extremely peaceful scene, like a "sleeping fairy" in the middle of the mountain scenery. Enjoying the fresh air, you can truly immerse yourself in the nature of the mountains and forests, eliminating all worries in life.

  • Remember to bring swimwear and towels. Sunscreen is also very important as we will have many outdoor recreational activities in Du Gia. The tour guide will prepare enough drinks for everyone before we go to the waterfall.

Day 4: Du Gia - Duong Thuong Valley Countryside Road - Thai An River - Ha Giang

9:00 AM: After breakfast and saying goodbye to our homestay host, we will continue our journey. On this last day, we are still captivated by the natural beauty and stunning scenery. Today's journey will take us back to Ha Giang, but that doesn't mean the end of attractive destinations! After a two-hour drive, we will arrive at a famous valley where you can admire the impressive terraced rice fields. Large dams block the rivers, creating a magnificent landscape. We will get lost in the large flax fields in the H'Mong valley on the rustic country road called Duong Thuong.

1:00 PM: After an adventurous trip, we will return to Ha Giang in the afternoon. You can enjoy a delicious lunch at the Homestay, savoring delicious dishes. You will have enough time to catch a bus or limousine back to Hanoi. Depending on your choice and schedule, you can choose between an overnight sleeper bus or an afternoon limousine. It depends on your availability and what you want to do after our tour.

  • For those who plan to ride a motorbike on their own, we recommend arriving a day before the tour to review the safety procedures. If you do not ride a motorbike, you can join us for lunch on the first day before we start our motorbike journey.
